How to Use DYM Dental Diamond Burs Correctly?

The correct use of dental high speed diamond burs is crucial to the effectiveness and safety of dental treatment. The following are the specific steps:

1.Preparation of Dental Diamond Burs before Operation

First, check the burs: carefully check the appearance of the burs to ensure that the diamond grains are evenly distributed and there is no obvious shedding, defect or crack. If the bur is damaged, the diamond grains may fall off during use, which will affect the treatment effect and even cause harm to the patient’s mouth.

Second, confirm whether the model and specification of the bur meet the burs of the upcoming treatment operation. For example, when preparing a tooth, a bur with a specific shape (such as an inverted cone, a round-head cone, etc.) may be required to accurately remove carious tissue and shape the tooth shape.

Third, install the bur, install the bur correctly on the high-speed handpiece and ensure that it is firmly installed. Generally, the bur is inserted into the chuck of the handpiece and then tightened to the specified torque using a special wrench. A bur that is not firmly installed may loosen and fall off when rotating at high speed, which can cause serious harm to patients and medical staff.

Fourth, adjust the equipment parameters. According to the type of bur and treatment requirements, adjust the speed of the handpiece on the dental chair. Different models of burs and different treatment operations (such as cutting, grinding, polishing, etc.) require different speeds. For example, the speed can be higher for rough grinding, while the speed should be relatively lower for fine polishing to avoid over-cutting and damage to the tooth surface. Usually, the speed of diamond burs can be set at around 300,000 -400,000 rpm when cutting tooth hard tissue.

2.Key Points for Use during Operation

First, Holding posture. The correct holding posture is to hold the handpiece with the thumb, index finger and middle finger, and the ring finger is used as a support point to lean on the tissue around the patient’s mouth to maintain stability. This holding method can effectively control the direction and strength of the diamond bur, avoiding damage to the soft tissue around the tooth or inaccurate tooth preparation due to hand shaking during operation.

Second, the way to contact the tooth, when the diamond bur contacts the tooth, it should be touched lightly to avoid excessive force. At the beginning, you can let the diamond burs contact the tooth surface with low pressure, and then gradually increase the pressure as needed. For example, when removing carious tissue, carefully control the cutting depth of the bur to just remove the diseased tissue while avoiding damage to the pulp.
Third, keep the angle between the bur and the tooth surface correct. Different shapes of burs and different treatment sites have different angle requirements. For example, when using a flame-shaped bur to open the pulp, the bur should maintain a certain tilt angle with the tooth surface to accurately enter the pulp cavity, while when grinding the occlusal surface of the tooth, the bur is usually perpendicular to the tooth surface.

Fourth, the operation technique is to use intermittent operation, that is, let the bur work on the tooth surface for a period of time and then pause for a while. This can prevent the bur and the tooth from overheating, because the friction between the high speed rotating the bur and the tooth will generate heat, and excessive temperature may damage the pulp. For example, the operation time can be controlled at about 5-10 seconds each time, and then pause for 2-3 seconds.

Fifth, when performing operations such as tooth preparation or restoration adjustment, they must be performed in a certain order and direction. For example, when preparing a crown, you can start from the neck of the tooth and gradually cut and grind towards the incisal end or the cusp, and try to keep the movement trajectory of the bur smooth, so that the prepared tooth surface can be smoother, which is conducive to the production and placement of the restoration.

    3.Precautions after Operation

First, the dental bur should be cleaned immediately after use to remove tooth tissue debris, blood, saliva and other contaminants on the bur surface. Special dental instrument cleaning fluid and ultrasonic cleaning equipment can be used for cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning can effectively remove dirt in the gaps and depressions of the bur to ensure the cleanliness of the bur.

Second, check the bur wear and tear after cleaning. Carefully check the bur wear and tear, including the degree of diamond grain shedding and the change in the shape of the bur. If a large amount of diamond grains fall off or the shape of the bur is significantly deformed, the bur should be replaced in time. Because excessively worn burs may not achieve the expected treatment effect and may even cause harm to the patient.

Third, disinfection and storage. After cleaning and inspection, the bur needs to be strictly disinfected, usually by high temperature and high pressure sterilization. Ensure that the bur is not damaged during the disinfection process and strictly follow the operating instructions of the disinfection equipment. Store the disinfected bur in a dry and clean special instrument box to avoid collision and contamination of the bur for the next use.

DYM dental diamond burs are individually packaged in cardboard, 5 pcs per plate, 50 pcs per box, for daily use in dental clinics.
